Goal description

The course aims to offer students the classes and exercises that will allow them to handle the basic principles of narration, dramaturgy, and storytelling that are vastly used in the writing of screenplays.

Students also get the exceptional opportunity to collaborate with fiction directors and animation students in writing their stories and screenplays.

The process is supported and completed with a set of mandatory theoretical courses and a range of electives courses.

Learning outcomes

One Year Intensive Program -Screenwriting (OYIP-S) Alumni possess a plentiful understanding of the basic principles of narration, dramaturgy and storytelling that are vastly used in the writing of screenplays.

Graduates hold a solid skillset for the short format such as:

•Developing a good idea into an actual story

•Creating compelling characters

•Designing engaging plots

•Estimate the right structure for the given story and plot.

•Writing a filmic dialog.

•Writing visually cinematic scenes.

•Incorporating a theme organically into the screenplay.

•Adapting materials from other mediums (literature, journalism, poetry). into a screenplay.

OYIP-S alumni have a good understanding of the fundamentals of TV writing and the specific narrative structures, character development techniques, and collaborative processes involved in writing for television.

OYIP-S graduates can collaborate in the writing process together with other screenwriters and/or directors.

OYIP-S alumni have developed analytical skills in order to detect dramaturgical virtues and flaws in existing screenplays and films.

Candidate's prerequisites

A maximum of 6 students per mentor workshop is accepted.

The OYIP-S is aimed at students who have at least finished high school education and have gained a minimum of practical experience with any form or genre in writing. It is a very well suited program for those who want to get an intensive and hands-on experience with the writing for the screen craft in its diverse formats, genres and styles, which would allow them to be accepted for higher education degrees (Bachelor's, Master's) on dramatic writing or filmmaking.

Screenwriting mentors carefully evaluate the applications from all prospect students and make admission decisions based on the quality of those materials, with an approximate minimum of 3 students and a maximum of 6 students per each mentor workshop.

Conditions for completing

For completion of the course students must:

1) Execute and complete the exercises and projects from the mentor workshop within the time defined by the study plan.

2) Attend and pass all mandatory theory classes.

3) Accumulate a minimum of 60 ECTS credits via electives courses and modules.
