Goal description
An intensive hands-on experience based on mentor workshop where each student will work as editor and co-editor of several film projects of different format, genre and lengths. A program addressing the core principles of narration and storytelling that are vastly used in films. And how these principles can be adapted to the needs of the film or to the specific goals of the director and producer.
Each student will be the editor or co-editor for at least 5 different film projects directed by students of OYIP-Directing Fiction, OYIP -Cinematography and OYIP -Documentary students:
1) One 3 minutes silent narrative film (16mm)
2) One 12 minutes documentary short (digital)
3) One 10 minutes fiction short film (16mm)
4) One 12 minutes documentary final project and
5) One 5 min 35mm narrative film.
The process is supported and completed with a set of mandatory theoretical courses and a range of electives courses.
Learning outcomes
OYIP-Editing (OYIP-E) alumni are equipped with sufficient skills and experience to successfully edit a fiction or nonfiction short film.
OYIP-E alumni are well versed in the core principles of narration and storytelling that are vastly used in films. They can apply these principles and adapt them to the needs of the film or to the specific goals of the director and producer.
OYIP-E alumni have proper skills to manipulate and operate various editing and postproduction software, and 16mm electro-mechanical editing tables.
OYIP-E graduates can offer not only technical or narrative inputs and solutions to a film project but can also be an artistic collaborator to the film director and/or producer.
OYIP-E alumni fully understand the complexity and details of the postproduction workflow and can successfully collaborate with postproduction supervisors, VFX artists, colorists, sound designers and other professionals.
OYIP-E alumni can work professionally as editors of short and medium length formats, as well as an assistant editor on long feature projects.
OYIP-E graduates are equipped with sufficient knowledge and skills in order to continue further education at Montage MA for more advanced development.
Candidate's prerequisites
A maximum of 6 students per mentor workshop is accepted.
The One Year Intensive Program- Editing is aimed at students who have at least finished high school education and have gained a minimum of practical experience with editing software and storytelling. It is a very well-suited program for those who want to get an intensive and hands-on experience with editing both fiction and non-fiction films, which would allow them to be accepted for higher education degrees (Bachelor's, Master's) on Filmmaking.
Cinematography mentors carefully evaluate the applications from all prospect students and make admission decisions based on the quality of those materials, with an approximate minimum of 3 students and a maximum of 6 students per each mentor workshop.
Conditions for completing
For completion of the course students must:
1) Execute and complete the collaboration with OYIP-Directing students, OYIP-Cinematography, and OYIP-Documentary students within the time defined by the study plan.
2) Attend and pass all mandatory theory classes.
3) Accumulate a minimum of 60 ECTS credits via electives courses and modules.
