Description and objectives of the programme
An intensive hands-on experience based on mentor workshop where each students conceive, develop and direct, in an individual manner, three different film projects:
1) One 3 minutes non-fiction film (16mm)
2) One 12 minutes documentary portrait (digital) and
3) One 12 documentary short film (16mm).
The process is supported and completed with a set of mandatory theoretical courses and a range of electives courses.
Learning outcomes
The One Year Intensive Program – Documentary (OYIP-Doc) alumni are equipped with an exhaustive experience in the craft of writing, developing and directing non-fiction short films.
They can critically study environments or realities around them by identifying potential subjects, themes or situations worthy of a documentary or nonfiction film.
They are fully capable of doing theoretical, bibliographical, and field research to write a treatment for a short documentary film.
OYIP-Doc graduates are sufficiently versed in diverse styles, modes, forms, genres and contemporary approaches in non-fiction filmmaking and skilled in determining the best narrative and formal approach to a specific documentary project.
The OYIP-Doc alumni can reflect in a critical manner, both from an artistic and political standpoint, on the relationship between reality, subject and author.
The OYIP-Doc alumni are equipped with the necessary language and skills for a collaboration, both on set and in post, with DOPs, sound designers and editors to deliver a documentary film with high professional and artistic standards.
The OYIP-Doc graduate is skilled to join professional teams of documentary filmmaking as writer, researcher, assistant director or director in the case of short and medium length formats.
The OYIP-Doc graduate is suited to enter the documentary industry with a solid knowledge of documentary dramaturgy, having worked both with film stock and contemporary digital technologies throughout the academic year.
Requirements of the admission procedure and programme registration
A maximum of 5students per mentor workshop is accepted.
The OYIP-Doc is aimed at students who have at least finished high school education and have gained a minimum of practical experience in directing or producing documentary films. It is a very well-suited program for those who want to get an intensive and hands-on experience in the conception and crafting of documentary films, which would allow them to be accepted for higher education degrees (Bachelor's, Master's) in Filmmaking.
Documentary and non-fiction mentors carefully evaluate the applications from all prospect students and make admission decisions based on the quality of those materials, with an approximate minimum of 3 students and a maximum of 5 students per each mentor workshop.
Conditions for completing
For completion of the course students must:
1) Execute and complete all three film projects of the mentor workshop within the time defined by the study plan.
2) Attend and pass all mandatory theory classes.
3) Accumulate a minimum of 60 ECTS credits via electives courses and modules.
