The One-Year Intensive Editing and Creative Postproduction Program at FAMU International, part of the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, offers a dynamic and hands-on introduction to the role of editing in cinematic storytelling. Designed for students passionate about visual narrative, the program combines creative exploration with technical training in both fiction and non-fiction formats.
Working in small workshop groups, students receive close mentorship from experienced editors and filmmakers while engaging in a range of practical exercises – from scene edits to complete short films. Emphasis is placed on editing aesthetics, rhythm, pacing, sound design, and the use of professional postproduction tools.
While studying filmmaking in Prague, students also attend theory-based seminars in film history and criticism, enriching their understanding of editing’s role within the broader language of cinema. By the end of the One Year Intensive Program, in Editing and Creative Postproduction students complete a portfolio of original work, preparing them for future academic or professional paths in filmmaking.
All students will receive a transcript of completed courses in accordance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), accepted by institutions worldwide. Those who fulfill the requirements of their study plan will also receive a Certificate from FAMU International Prague – one of the best film school in the world.
While acceptance into this one-year intensive program does not guarantee admission into further FAMU studies, the portfolio created serves as strong application material for advanced programs in filmmaking Prague continues to inspire.

One-Year Intensive Program – Editing and Creative Postproduction – at FAMU International, part of the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, is designed to equip students with the creative and technical foundations necessary for a future in creative field of postproduction. This program is ideal for those interested in studying filmmaking in Prague and discovering how powerful storytelling is shaped in the editing room.
The course emphasizes the editor’s role as a key creative collaborator, guiding students through both the theory and practice of editing across narrative and documentary formats. Admission to the One-Year Intensive Editing and Creative Postproduction Program at FAMU International, part of the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, is open to aspiring editors and storytellers with a passion for cinematic structure and visual narrative. This program is ideal for students interested in studying filmmaking in Prague and exploring the creative power of postproduction in the heart of Europe’s film scene.
Applicants must first complete the official application form, either digitally or by hand. All specializations are equally competitive, so candidates are advised to select Editing and Creative Postproduction based on their true creative interests.
A current CV detailing academic and artistic experience, along with the applicant’s English proficiency, must be included. Academic transcripts from all previously attended institutions should also be submitted with the artistic sample includes: a storyboard of 12 sequential photographs that tell a story visually, a short film edited by the applicant with a downloadable Vimeo or YouTube link provided in a .doc, a list of editing and sound software the applicant has experience with and a list of ten inspirational films.
Applicants must also submit a Statement of Intent explaining their goals, reasons for wanting to study filmmaking at FAMU Prague, and how they plan to contribute to the creative environment. A one-minute downloadable video self-portrait is also required. It is designed to assess the practical and theoretical knowledge gained throughout the one-year intensive experience while studying filmmaking in Prague.
At the heart of the examination is the presentation of the student’s final edited works – typically including a short film or selected scenes that they have edited as part of collaborative student productions. These projects must demonstrate an advanced understanding of narrative rhythm, structure, pacing, continuity, and visual storytelling, as well as technical competence with industry-standard editing tools and workflows.
Accompanying the final edit is a portfolio of earlier assignments and creative exercises completed during the course. This portfolio illustrates the student’s progression and versatility as an editor, highlighting their ability to apply different techniques across

The examination concludes with an oral defense, where the student presents their work, discusses their editing decisions, and reflects on their creative process.
